She’s written that the legislation “would hurt female employees,” yet studies have shown that closing the gender pay gap would cut the poverty rate in half for working women.
Fiorina’s first political race ended in a decisive loss to long-time California Senator Barbara Boxer in 2010 — a year in which Republicans across the country swept Democrats out of office. Boxer’s campaign triumphed, according to the LA Times, by portraying Fiorina as “a heartless corporate titan who had laid off workers and shipped jobs abroad.” A similar characterization of Mitt Romney, another wealthy CEO who oversaw layoffs and outsourcing, help tank his bid for the White House in 2012, raising questions about Fiorina’s prospects in 2016.

According to History.com, the French lost 500 men in a single day, while Mexican forces lost fewer than 100. The victory gave the Mexicans a huge morale boost, and the French withdrew six years later. Puebla de Los Angeles was renamed Puebla de Zaragoza in honor of the general’s great triumph.
Today, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated widely in the United States with parties and parades. According to UCLA’s Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture, surprisingly, the holiday was invented in modern-day California in 1863 and has continued to be celebrated in the United States, but is almost completely ignored in Mexico. Only a few states, including Puebla, recognize it.

“The creative industries make a huge economic and cultural contribution to the UK. That is why in budget after budget as chancellor, I announced measures to support the industry.
“We are committed to backing this sector and the decision by Lucasfilm to continue to make the UK the home of Star Wars production is why we are right to believe that Britain is the best place in the world for the creative industries.”
Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said: “We are looking forward to continuing the new generation of Star Wars movies in the UK.”
There was, though, one blow for the franchise over the weekend, after it emerged that Josh Trank had pulled out of directing a Star Wars spinoff.

The director of Chronicle and the upcoming Fantastic Four movie was to direct the second Star Wars Anthology film, which is due out in 2018.
